NanogisamemberofthehomeoboxfamilyofDNAbindingtranscriptionfactorsthathasbeenshowntomaintainembryonicstem(ES)cellself-renewalindependentlyofleukemiainhibitoryfactor(LIF)andStat3.NanogmRNAispresentinpluripotentmouseandhumancelllinesandisabsentfromdifferentiatedcells.Functionally,Nanogworkstogetherwithotherkeypluripotentfactors(Oct4,Sox2,andLin28)toreprogramhumanfibroblastsandgenerateinducedpluripotentstem(iPS)cells.Thesekeyfactorsformaregulatorynetworktosupportorlimiteachother'sexpressionlevel,maintainingthepropertiesofEScells.TheNanogAntibody(AffinityPurified)wasscreenedonhumanandmouseEScellsusingimmunocytochemistryandselectedasthebestNanogantibodyavailableforresearchersneedingtodemonstratepluripotency.
