Introduction

Adiponectinisahormoneexclusivelyexpressedfromadiposetissue.Manystudiesdemonstratethatadiponectinhasdirectanti-diabetic,anti-atherogenicandanti-inflammatoryfunctions.APM-1canincreaseinsulinsensitivityofskeletalmuscle,attenuatehepaticlipogenesisandluconeogenesis,regulateNOproductioninendothelialcells,inhibitproliferationofsmoothmusclecellsandpreventlipidaccumulationofmacrophagecells.Inthecirculation,adiponectinispresentasthreedifferentoligomericcomplexes,includingthehighmolecularweight(HMW),themiddlemolecularweight(MMW,alsocalledhexamer)andlowmolecularweigh(MMW,alsocalledtrimer)forms8.Differentoligomericcomplexofadiponectinactivatesdifferentsignalingpathwaysandexertsdistinctfunctions.
